Why are you using the blob type? your message text isn't a binary large object,
isn't it?! Instead you may choose the TEXT types. There are different kinds of
TEXT types in MySQL. Refer to the manual. For very short messages (#chars<=255)
there is also the VARCHAR type.

Subject: [PHP-GENERAL] blob?
Security Level:? Internal
I am writing a very simple messaging system. I
have a column in a table that is to be used for
the msg itself. I have looked at mysql.com
documentation. When I try to insert the message
with punctation I receive errors, am I using the
wrong column type ?
