1. You can't. The only thing you can do is by creating a new file:
- create new destination file (i.e. as temp)
- read part from source file
-write it to dest file
- write your new data to the dest file
- read further parts from source file
- write them to dest file
- close files
- rename dest file to source file
2. You can do it with forms:
<input type=text name="myvar" value="Hello World">
or URLs:
<a href="myscript.php3?myvar=Hello+World">
On the next page you have $myvar available with the value assigned in the page
before.
For further Info refer to the manual!

Subject: [PHP-GENERAL] Newbie Questions
Security Level:? Internal
Hello,
I'm brand new to PHP and this list, so please forgive me if my questions
have been covered.
1. How do I write to a specific location in a file? All the fopen()
modes that I'm aware of either write at the beginning or end of the file
(or simply write over the file) I want to put data in the middle of my
file.
2. Can I pass a PHP variable on an anchor tag to another php document?
Thanks.
Martin
