Session management and virtual hosts

Hi, I am facing difficulties while operating php4 session mamagement on a virtual host (apache). Everytime my php.script is called, a new session is started (and all data get lost). Session files are created, but may be not read? With the main server everything is fine. Does the PHP4 session management support virtual hosts or is it more likely to be a matter of configuration?
