Unreliable PHP connections to SYBASE server

Hi I am running Sybase server on Linux and using PHP (as a DSO) with Apache. We've noticed that after a period of time our ability to connect to the database deteriorates. It takes a restart of the Apache server to clear up this problem. I was wondering if anyone has seen the same problems, or, could point me in the right direction to find a fix. I haven't been able to find anything very informative on the php.net site (about this issue anyway). I am using the following versions of everything: - PHP 4.0.2 - Sybase 10.0.4 - Apache 1.3.12 I'm happpy to answer any other questions needed to help solve this problem.
