Currently we use MS Visual Source Safe as our
version control software. It's not all that great
but it serves our needs and can integrate into
Homesite 4.x+
Our general procedure is to check a file out of
VSS, modify it, check it back into VSS and deploy
to our webserver. Doing this makes it so that
someone else cannot check the file out of VSS
but it does not prevent them from modifying the
file directly on the server.
Now, I'm wondering if there is some sort of
version control software, similar or not to VSS,
that would be able to modify the permissions
on the server (a *nix box) so that noone other
than the person checking the file out would be
able to modify it.
Is there such an animal?
