You don't need apxs to install mysql. apxs is a way to bind in the php into
apache.
for apxs your apache server has to be configured to use apxs.
DSO - someone correct me here - dynamic shared object? runtime linkable -
kind of linux dlls
If running PHP module as a DSO needs Apache must use APXS
if using static modules, use configure without apxs.
Have a look at the apache configuration - you must be running at least
apache 1.3 to have apxs support.
You can see how apache is running by doing a
httpd -T
from a shell prompt (you may need to be root)
have a look at http://www.apache.org/docs/dso.html
for more legible info ;)
www.apache.org/docs might be a good start to look to.
Cheers,
Lawrence.

Subject: [PHP] installation problem
Dear All,
I am trying to install PHP 4.0 into my linux server, but i have problem
during
installation, hope u could give me a hand.
While I run ./configure --with-mysql --with-apxs, the system cannot find
apxs, why is that, how can I check whether apxs is installed (someone else
was installed the server, not me).
What are the difference between DSO and static modules, which one i should
install in order to run php with database support.
Your assistance is highly appreciated.
Rgds
Desmond
