This supposedly an agreed apon convention for lists. I happen to think that it's a dopey one, for the reasons you state, but apparently it's been hashed over for years. Maybe someone can post a ref to some docs that explain the rationale? To me the primary interest is in keeping threads whole, and this convention doesn't help that at all. The reply-to value is not set by the list server. As a result, when people post to the list, sometimes when repliers hit reply, the reply goes back to the original sender only, and not the list. So some messages that are part of the thread may not be seen on the list. Is this intentional to keep down traffic?
