What you can do is set up the page using frames. Set one as the
main frame that holds the chess board. Set the other to be just
a few pixels HxW. In the tiny frame, load a page where the
only thing it does is refresh every 30 seconds or so and if it detects
a change in the state, triggers something on the main, chess board,
frame to tell it to refresh.
