following the directions a bit closer and it seems that I do not have mod_so.c compiled into apache1.3.14 Can anyone provide a bit of direction here? -MichaelI am not sure if this is what you want, but following are my notes on the install that compiles PHP static into Apache but still allow for other modules to be utilized via the DSO mechanism. Here are two other locations for install instructions if mine don't do it for you: http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/SoothinglySeamless/ http://www.e-gineer.com/instructions/index.phtml Note: If you need it, first install MySQL which I have located at: /usr/local/mysql ______________________________ SOURCE Download distributions, I put into directory: /usr/local/etc apache_1.3.14.tar.gz php-4.0.3pl1.tar.gz ______________________________ DESTINATION The following assumes the "standard" arrangement of files (as defined for the most part by the default installation and configuration of Apache): ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache Web root: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/ Server binary: /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd (many like to move this into one of the system bin locations. The reason is better security, especially on multi-user systems, since that directory can only be accessed via root.) Logs: /usr/local/apache/logs/ Monitor: /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl {start | stop | status | configtest} Startup script for Apache (on RedHat): /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd Note: See the install instructions in the distributions for a full (but not necessarily detailed) description of the options you want to install, Those options are specified using the command "configure" as is shown below (the lines end with a backslash \ to indicate the command continues on the next line). Also, [root@www etc]# is just the prompt you type after, and the following does not show what comes after the command is issued. _____________________________ INSTALL [root@www etc]# cd /usr/local/etc/ [root@www etc]# tar zxvf apache_1.3.14.tar.gz [root@www etc]# cd apache_1.3.14 [root@www apache_1.3.14]# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache [root@www apache_1.3.14]# cd ..
