We are not having *any* problem with running PHP as ISAPI module,
we are running PHP4.0.3 now, but we did run it since PHP4.0.1pl1,
without any problems.
We use file access and heavy used database connections with it,
so far without a glince. Also it seems that PHP is way faster dan
ASP is, only I havent been able to test this with a script which does
exactly the same.
I know the readme states that it is not ready for production use yet.
WIll it ever be when it is not tested in production use?
We did test it for several weeks and the only one time I was able to
crash PHP when I wanted to send custom headers (mmm, I should report this
as a bug). "Content-Length" is possible but changing the main HTTP
response isnt (access violation).
To cache thing under Apache, try putting Squid in front of it, that
will definitely speed up things.
Apache is the webserver - Squid the caching machine.

How are you getting PHP/ISAPI to run stably? We can't, and the PHP readme
says it's not ready for stable production release (or did - is it changed?)
ASP v PHP - there are loads of posts in the archives - I've contributed
myself.
marc.theaimsgroup.com is probably a good place to go look thru the archives
to start with.
In short, imo, if you're stuck on Windows, ASP is probably still a better
solution.
Long term, for portability, lower TCO, etc., PHP is stronger, but it depends
on
what the thinking is at your company (long term v short term).
BTW, it's not that unfortunate you don't have apache - Apache is good, but
IIS
isn't that bad either.
Pretty much any benchmark you do will show IIS/ASP beating out Apache/PHP -
IIS caches a lot of stuff - Apache out of the box doesn't. Zend Cache will
hopefully solve a lot of this, but at the reported street price for zend
cache,
you've lost any price arguments against Windows. Again, all this is IMO of
course.
