I work for a college as a web programmer using php and sometimes perl. I
also teach a couple of classes there. We recently reworked our Associate
curriculum so that we will produce web programmers. We want to teach them
databasing, perl, and php. We also want them to become proficient with
each. The reason I am posting this is because I have been unable to find
any college textbooks for PHP. I've found plenty of books, but no text
books. Does anyone have any experience teaching PHP? I've already decided
to create my own course materials for the two php classes. The first class
will be learning php and doing small programs. The second class will
probably be one big project using more advanced features of php and putting
it all together. I've also been considering writing a text book. That is
the main reason I am posting this. I would like to get as much input from
everyone using and developing php as possible. Textbooks don't make much
money, but I would like the proceeds to go to the development of PHP. If
you think you can add any thoughts to this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I realize also that this list probably wasn't intended for this sort of
discussion, so it might be best to send replies directly to me off list. If
I don't get enough material for a book, but you would like to see the course
materials I put together, I will be more than happy to share them with you.
Thanks.
