mail() not sending emails

Hello,
I'm trying to use mail() to send emails using shti code:

$sent=mail("email@email.com", "My Subject", "Line 1\nLine 2\nLine 3");
if(!$sent) {
echo "not okay";
}
echo $sent;
?>
The mail is not being sent. When i echo $sent there is nothing.
I changed php.ini so it can use qmail instead of sendmail.
Any ideas why it doesn't work?
