Heh, you asking a beginning programmer to read *AND* understand the
*COMPLETE* HTTP 1.1 RFC? You sadist :)
Sure, the http 1.1 rfc is a very important document, no doubt about that. I
dream in HTTP/1.1 :) But a lot of it its not at all required reading unless
you are actually implementing a HTTP server. The document should be treated
as reference material, not as required reading for beginning php'ers. It is
way too technical for beginners anyway, AND it includes many things that
even the most modern servers/browsers do not yet support.
To recommend a complete 400Kb RFC to a beginner as if it were a bedtime
story might very well be considered form of torture :)
A somewhat easier to read substitute that doesn't throw as much technical
mumble-jumble to readers would be "HTTP Made Really Easy", and it can be
found on:
http://www.jmarshall.com/easy/http/
It is more http knowledge a beginning php'er would ever need.
