Can't get XML to compile

Hi again I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to solve my XML installation problem with PHP 4.0.3pl1. configure works without error but make stops when working with XML. When it stops it seems to list out the contents of a large text file but its so long I can't scroll back in my telnet buffer to see how it started. I've pasted how it ends below. I think I am missing a library file. I'm on a shared host who seem to be running Stronghold/2.2 Apache/1.2.5. I don't have write access to the /usr directory so I can't add any files there. Configure doesn't seem to have anything like the --with-mysql switch for XML to tell it where to find the Expat libraries. As an experiment I uploaded expat.zip into its own directory and it makes successfully but I don't know how to get make to use the result. Thanks to those who answered my hosting questions. If I can get this to work then I think I will stay at my current host until I know if my project is going to fly or not. I have a similar problem with pcre but I can live with that because the posix regex seems to work ok. Everything else is working perfect if I disable those two features but I would sure like to get XML and WDDX working.
