strange error

While installing a prewritten script in a new dir on the same server, I came
upon a strange error I've never seen before and frankly dont know what the
heck it is or how to fix it.. tried browsing the manual, but found nothing.
The new installation of the script had some modifications to the
configuration of various variables (I put them in a config file and included
it in the start), but other than that there's no other changes from the
working version already installed.
The error I keep getting is
Fatal error: input in flex scanner failed in /home/sexcup/htdocs/msgdemo on
line 1
line one?? that seems to be something wierd about, as that line only contain
<?php (and the last line ?>)
