Subject: [PHP] Host recommendations? Probably going with digitaldaze.
I'm sorry to bore everyone with yet another 'Who's a good host'
inquiry but I am probably about to sign up for a virtual server
account at digitaldaze and would appreciate hearing of any recent good
or bad comments. I'm also happy to hear alternatives.
These are my requirements:
Recent versions of MySQL and PHP4 (preferably running as an Apache
module).
The biggie I keep running into: My scripts must not be readable by
other users on the same machine. I've found this to be a real problem
on the vast majority of low cost hosts who require scripts to be world
readable to use the Apache module PHP. One of the scripts always
contains the MySQL password. I have solved this in the past by using a
host with cgiwrap or suExec and compiling PHP as my own CGI and not
using their module but for my next project I really want the
performance of the module.
SSL for a few secure pages. (low cost using the host's domain and
certificate).
Telnet, FTP. Linux or BSD development environment etc.
Email forwarding. A few POP mailboxes would be nice but not essential.
Value for money but not looking for rock bottom price.
Thanks
Ross
