php not running since I installed NT4 Option Pack

I installed the NT 4 option pack on my workstation, because I develop in asp
as well as php.
ever since I installed the option pack, php does not run and I get the
following error in my browser:
Fatal error: Unable to open ??????????????3???????????? in - on line 0
No input file specified.
I have tried reinstalling php, but that didn't work. I checked out the FAQ,
but the options listed
in the FAQ are not available under PWS, at least not my version.
php DOES work from the command line.
My configuration:
nt4 sp5
PWS with nt4 option pack
Has anyone conquered this before? If so, how? Any help with this would be
appreciated, and
no, I don't have the option of removing the option pack ;)
