*ANY* of the databases should be able to handle this.
You only *really* need to worry about "which database" if you need
specific features like transactions or you expect a million hits a day (or
whatever the limits of any given database are) on your site.
You may want to stick with whatever database package you have handy or you
already know anything about. If you have no previous preference, MySQL is
a good choice since there's so much sample code out there.
PHP3 or PHP4 will work just fine and dandy as well.
There's a nice tutorial to get you started linked from one of the main
pages off of http://www.php.net/ as well as several MySQL
tutorials in
various places.
