serious problem with apache logs and php

Hi.. i just changed the apache logmode from "common" to "combined" and hell broke loose on my site.. now PHP warning are SHOWN on the site.. which breaks a lot of scripts ("warning .. header already sent etc etc..") is see NO RELATION AT ALL between such a simple change in logging and whats happenbing now.. any1 know show to solve this? looks like a bug to me.
