Are you sure your GD library is compiled with JPEG support enabled? I
would remove all traces of GD from your system and make sure you have
the libjpeg.a library on your system. And that doesn't simply mean
that you need to install the libjpeg-6b package. You also need
libjpeg-devel. I also suggest installing libpng, libpng-devel, freetype
and freetype-devel. Then do this:
Grab this file:
http://www.rime.com.au/gd/src/gd-1.8.3gif.tar.gz
Uncompres it and go edit the Makefile in the gd-1.8.3 directory. Make
sure you have these two lines:
CFLAGS=-O2 -DHAVE_JPEG
LIBS=-lm -lgd -ljpeg -lpng -lz
Don't enable TTF support in this Makefile.
Now compile it: make
In your PHP directory use:
./configure --with-gd=/home/foo/gd-1.8.3 --with-jpeg-dir=/usr --with-ttf
... plus whatever other options you use
This should provide you with a PHP/GD setup that supports GIF, JPEG, PNG,
and TTF.
