A quick explenation:
ip addresses are formed on tcp level and php works on application level (as
does http), so you create your http-packet and php gives that to the
operating system which adds the ports on the tcp level and the ip's on the
ip-level below tcplevel. Then this goes to the ethernet-level where mac
addresses are added.
