User Authentication on PHP3

Hi list,
We are newbies on PHP, and we are trying to implement an user authentication
that make possible to the user navegate through the pages without the
necessity to type the login and password all the time.
It means to make possible the persistence of these data not using http
header or cookies.
The problem is that our ISP uses only the PHP3 with no possibilities of adds
of modules, just the basic (we are trying to use the PHP Base Library).
There are any kind of solution in these terms?
