depending on your environment(s):
company I used to work for would allow clients to upload images for front
page headlines; however since space was a premium, they would pass it
through Adobe ImageReady running on the server (NT) and resize it to fit
the space allowed (only program I know that would allow passing information
via command line; not sure if it still does)
if you use a db to manage content on the website (can be done with flat
text files too), just create a form that allows them to alter some text.
then when page is loading, retrieve information from db/file
two cents: never give a WYSIWYG editor to a client without expecting to
clean up their mess. when something moves a pixel offcenter or starts
creating 30 embedded tables (and they wonder why there is a performance
decrease), you will be the one cleaning up the mess. Uploading files is
easy with PHP (actually is basic html form creation) and modifying db based
content is by far the easiest method.

That's called a content manager. The good ones can get VERY expensive.
But basic ones are cheap or even free.
Something a little off the subject, but cool none the less.... I just
saw a company that has some ColdFusion code that allows you to plug a
WYSIWYG editor directly in your browser (IE 4+), they also made this
killer tool that allows you to scan images and save them directly to the
server. Very slick for associating an image with a particular record in
a database, can all be done in one step.
i forget the name of the site, but if you really want it, I'll find it
for you. It was done in ColdFusion, but it could pretty easily be
ported over to PHP.
