Well there are some incompatibilities between 3 and 4 (see
http://www.php.net/version4/incompatibilities.php
for just a
sample). However, unless you can see an overwhelming need to change to PHP
4 (array functions, identity operators, new extensions, improved
performance), I'd stick with 3 for now.
