Yes.
PHP 4 is more agressive in its timing and can GC an object as soon as its no
longer referenced.
PHP 3 will not GC some things until the script ends, but will get them all.

This is from PHPLib? PHPLib's page_close() has little or nothing to do with
PHP's GC, except that PHPLib may be maintaining some sort of state of a
large number of objects until that's called...

See php.ini for the session time limit.
Page caching is controlled by HTTP protocol headers, not PHP. Search the
code archives for "cache" and use every cache-related (and time/expiration)
header you can find.
