I meant in the example solutions he gave:
$temp = fread($f,filesize("ex1.txt"));
with ex1.txt file:
print <<<EOF
some text
EOF
?>
Which has no <? but a ?> (any other combination refuses to work)
sounds like some very odd behaviour...
