Usually he would put requires within includes within requires and then I would come along and try to include something that I thought was just a bunch of declarations. When I did that in my if(){ } statements it would create less than desirable effects. I spent 2 days working to de-require() a large part of our site right before a relaunch because of something he require()'d. I guess you would have just had to have been there. It basically equated to the fact that if he had left it as an include it would have worked fine, but he insisted on changing already written code to a require() - not only a waste of time, but he did it without considering the consequences. --Joe On Tue, Nov 14, 2000 at 12:56:13AM -0500, Lawrence.Sheed@dfait-maeci.gc.ca wrote: > What did it exactly break? > > Any examples so I can see why, rather than 'it broke stuff'? > > -----Original Message----- > From: Joe Stump [mailto:joe@earth.care2.com] > Sent: November 14, 2000 01:56 PM > To: Maxim Maletsky > Cc: php-general@lists.php.net > Subject: Re: [PHP] Require() vs Include() - - c o n c l u s i o n > > > Sorry for the strong words about require() - but when you are part of a team > that runs a media metrix top 500 company and one of those people uses a > function > for no apparent reason (none that he could justify) and it breaks stuff on > your > LIVE site with millions of people watching you tend to get biased REAL > quick. > > :O) > > --Joe > > ============================================================================ > ==== > = Joe Stump joestump98@yahoo.com > http://www.miester.org = > ============================================================================ > ==== > "Real programmers don't comment their code. > It was hard to write, it should be hard to understand." > > -- > PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) > To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-general-unsubscribe@lists.php.net > For additional commands, e-mail: php-general-help@lists.php.net > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net ================================================================================ = Joe Stump joestump98@yahoo.com http://www.miester.org = ================================================================================ "Real programmers don't comment their code.
