Why the people hate perl comment? I know it was in fun, but
still there is no reason to hate perl. Perl is a wonderful
language and I use it quite frequently. However, I use it for
what it was meant to be: a language for system administration.
When it comes to the web though, PHP is definitely superior to
perl.

Sharon,
PHP is specifically designed to be a high performance web
language.
PERL is not. PERL pre-dates the web, PHP does not. To do CGI
stuff
in PERL, most people use the CGIpm stuff, which adds fat IMO. In
PHP,
that is all part of the standard language.
Database access is beautiful and native in PHP, you need to use
an
abstraction layer in PERL (thus adding to the fat layer).
PHP unofficially means People Hate Perl, so this is probably the
wrong
group of people to be asking, we will be biased -- although above
I
tried not to be. I can probably come up with more reasons if
provoked
;-)
