I want to announce a new version of the Terra Cotta site/content admin
package I've been working on.
http://www.terracottasoftware.com/
The Terra Cotta system is a collection of website design and
management tools, data architectures, and programming libraries for
database-backed websites. It is useful for the modular implementation
and maintenance of web applications, and for resource sharing
between them.
The new beta release has enhanced the data model to deal with users
being in multiple user groups, facilitating some permissioning issues.
It
also has better alert/logging data models. It includes a wide suite of
tools for managing users/files/scripts/alerts/layout
views/permissions/login
properties/etc. and these have been improved a substantial amount,
in removing bugs, adding functionality, and integrating them better
with each other.
There are also some nice new packages. There's a link catalog, a
guestbook,
a random quote machine, hit counter, mailform, a mailing list
administrator,
image manager, etc. There are also some nice libraries, like
text-to-HTML
parsing, and (soon!) ACH transaction processing. (BTW, if anyone has
done this, please let me know. I've been having trouble with errors in
the official
docs.)
If you have downloaded the older version of Terra Cotta, I encourage you
to update. If you haven't, try it out! There is a demo version on the
site, and
although it is crippled some (don't hurt my server, pleeeease! :-)) it
should give
a good idea of the capabilities of the core toolkit and the plug-ins and
libraries.
There's now a mailing list for those interested in future announcements,
and
if anyone is interested in getting involved with development, that would
be
welcome!
