That's a pretty Bad Idea (tm).
You're going to have a devil of a time getting any sort of decent
performance out of your flat files, and the locking issues of users trying
to write to the same thread at the same time is going to be a royal pain.
Why are you ruling out MySQL?...
You might want to at least consider using dbm/dba, the Un*x flat-file
database package instead...
