These functions tend to expect a daemon or other program running
simultaneously with the PHP script to communicate with. Another program
running with root privs on that machine may be able to snoop upon your
communications and data exchanges.
Basically, if you use unique keys that are hard to guess, the security
issues are minor, especially if you control the machine from the keyboard
and console yourself. Note that shared memory does not go away unless the
last person to use it turns out the lights. And it is real memory, so it
occupies space.
Also, semaphores can cause you to deadlock unless your code is designed
correctly.
Years of real time coding mistakes in the above sentences....
