then in cron.daily
write a short bash script to execute the script then tar the files and finally mail them to root
make it executable (chmod +x <filename>)
add the entry to your /etc/crontab file (it tells you syntax in the file)
and your done!

I would like to, say, run a backup script done in PHP (of course) that executes itself periodically. For example, every night at midnight I would like it to run itself and make a backup of the entire database and mail the compressed files to a certain email adddress.
