The newer GD library (above 1.6.1 or so, not sure) does not
support GIF images. I call a external program "convert"
which is part of XFree86.
Use the manpage for more info about it

hi,
I need to upload images(either gif or jpeg) and for these images to be
automatically reduced in quality i.e file size.I have clients who input
their own articles and upload their own related pictures using php.
i guess it involves the gd library, but if anyone knows of an article where
this specific problem is tackled i'd be very gratefull.also any advice from
anyone who's had similar problems (i.e images with php, etc.) would be
appreciated.
i have no problem with the uploading and storing images to a mysql database
bit.
it's the reduced file and physical size that i need help with.
thanx
