Book on php and MySQL? + adminsystem and shopping basket

Can anyone recommend a good book on php interacting with MySQL? I am a definite newbie and am trying to build a administrationtool for my MySQL database. I have figured out the basic stuff - adding, deleting and showing records. Now i need the extra bits - altering, checking if records already exists, deleting in different ways etc. I got a tip to use phpMyAdmin. That´s too complex. I want some of the functions and strip the rest of. If someone got a tip on a easily modified administration system i would appreciate to get that as well. And...in the near future i will need a shopping basket for an online store. Does anyone know of a good, cheap (preferably free) solution?
