I think what you want is $HTTP_POST_VARS[ "user" ]
Note the [] not ()
[] derefrences arrays.
() passes parameters to a function.
When you use () you are telling PHP you want to call a function. In this
case you are telling it to run the function named by the variable
$HTTP_POST_VARS. I don't think that is what you want.
