Hello people.. i recently got fedup with the apache webserver for the
preforking model (spawning a separate server to handle extra requests) which in
my opinion wastes an unparalleled quantity of resources (memory to begin
with..) in certain situation (scripts that need peeks of memory at times see
recent thread with title "Huge memory leak") .. so i am looking for
alternatives that will allow me to handle busy production servers with a
moderate (as in right) hardware expense.
Looking around i have found AOLserver which is free, multithreaded(should
handle much better the memory problems i was mentioning, should have much
better overall performances), certainly tested (busiest web sites in the
world?) and claims to work fine with PHP.
Anyone here uses it or has interesting comments about why one should (or should
not ) consider doing away with apache?
If i ever switch i know i am going to miss mod_rewrite :)
thanks in advance for any comment.
