Often people install php4 and 5 on the same server, then configure .php to use the latest version of php(5) and anything with extension php4 to use the old`e php4.
Thus, the file contents remain the same, however the way they are executed depends entirely on the server(s) config.

Just starting to use php on my webpages. If I save a file as .php or .php4 are they the same file. For example is index.php the same as index.php4? MaryAnn
