mod_rewrite which is standard for most Apache installations can do that
for you. I'm in a good mood so here is a link to the manual:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/rewriteguide.html
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_rewrite.html
And here is an example of how I've used it to move a site from an old
location (/freeplay on an old server to freeplay.no on another. from
.htm to .shtml as well):
RedirectMatch permanent /freeplay(.*)\.htm$
http://www.freeplay.no$1.shtml
RedirectMatch permanent /freeplay(.*)\.gif$
http://www.freeplay.no$1.gif
