Help on .htaccess config

Hi all,
I apologize for this question but I have a problem configuring a .htaccess file.
My .htaccess file looks so:
AuthUserFile /home/apache/htdocs/admin/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName HTML
AuthType Basic
<limit GET POST>
require valid-user
</limit>
I have set the httpd.conf so that .htaccess override all <directory> options.
If I try to load the index.html file, the server return this alert in the error log:
AuthUserFile takes 1-2 arguments, text file containing user IDs and passwords
and I get a 500 error....!
I'm also looking for the apache mailing list...
Can you help me?
