Forms variables not going through different pages :(

Ok, I know this has probably been posted loads of times, but I've been through mailing list archives like 5 times and I still haven't found a satisfactory answer. I have a form which I send to another page to preview it, and then ask the user to click the submit button so it goes into the database. Now as you might expect, just using $variables though the pages means I only get the first word in mysql. Should I be using global $HTTP_POST_VARS; somewhere? If so, where, as it keeps giving me : "GLOBAL variable declaration meaningless in main() scope " :( Someone point me in the right direction please??
