Are you uisng in httpd.conf
ErrorDocument 404 http://.... ???
You have to use a local directive like
ErrorDocument 404 /error/404.php , then you have the right REQUEST_URI
when you have different virtual-servers and you do not want to copy the
script in every htdocs directory use an global alias like
Alias /errorpages/ "/home/admin/errorpages/"
