Folks have mentioned JavaScript does this on the client side. Some things to
consider.
Client side operations should not be relied upon as a public interface. For
example, some viewers will come to your site with a browser that can't handle
JavaScript or has it turned off. Then, any operations performed using
JavaScript will be useless. The same thing applies for cookies.
The only 100% reliable thing to do is server side. In this case there are
two options: consolidate all the options into one list or have users submit
the first list to a second run of the script (or a second page) and storing
the value of the choices from the first list in a hidden input tag.
