A simple question with BC functions

I am fairly new to PHP, and I have had success running many things, including database access.
But I cannot get any of the BC functions to work (my web host has PHP 4).
Is there something simple I'm missing, or does my host have a problem?
My test URL is: http://XyloWeb.com/testbc.php
The error message I get is: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: bcadd() in
/www/xyloweb/testbc.php on line 5
Here is the code:

I've tried several variations on this, and get the same error.
