I have been wondering the same thing for quite some time. I was hoping to see a response from someone on the list, but never did. Has anyone sent you a personal reply giving any advantages to oop in php? If so, could you forward them to me? Ok, I too am trying to grasp all this class stuff. I have been coding basic apps for about 3 months, and after reading a bit and playing around a little, I think I have a good handle on how it works, and why classes are "cleaner" and all,... BUT, here is what I dont understand - In PHP, this "page-scoped" variable thing - of what real use are classes/objects, if everything in PHP is always page-scoped (Sessions aside, I mean...) and the objects cannot be carried around? And lastly, what *is* the verdict on sessions and objects? Is it possible to store a "loaded" object in a session variable and get it to "cross page boundaries" via sessions?? (Or am I missing something completely fundamental on all of this stuff altogether?) ... I've been following the threads, but I admit I dont understand a lot of it (yet!).. Thanks for all comments/suggestions, etc... (good, bad - or ugly!) (I *have* read some OO stuff in the past, so I understand the concepts and all, I guess I just dont understand the benefits of using OO in PHP if all you can really use them for is one script execution!
