It sounds like maybe you are sending the variable to the browser in a
cookie, but not setting it. Cookies are only set on subsequent pages, not
when you send it.

I have a real problem here.... I am trying to set a variable in a class....
register the class, and check for that variable in the other pages. but when
the user logs in... the variable is not there.... when he hits the back
button and logs in a second time. then the variable is there. what is
happening here....
