Not quite. As you said, PHP interprets any data between <? and ?>. This
would include
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
just as it would include
<?echo "Foof" ?>
Pete, in order to put <?xml ?> in your PHP documents, you'll need to
disable the short_open_tag config option, or print out the <?xml ?> by
hand, e.g echo '<?xml version="1.0" ?>';
