$REQUEST_URI is an Environment Variable. It's a variable that's set by
Apache and other web servers. It's set by the server to the URI requested by
the browser.
To test that it's woring on your system, place the following in a file inside
your web server space, then look at the file in your web browser:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
Use your browser's Find procedure to find "request_uri" in the page.
