I've had some problems with Netscape that I was able to solve. My main
page has two top level frames with one of those subdivided and one of those
subdivided again resulting in four total frames looking about like this:
------------------------------------
| | |
| | 3A |
| 2A | |
| | |
| | |
| | |
| |---------------------|
| | |
| | 3B |
| | |
------------------------------------
| 1B |
| |
------------------------------------
The initial web page only loaded SRC into 2A and 1B. Later, when the user
clicked on certain links, they would be targeted to 3A and/or 3B (and 2A
and 1B would have updated contents occasionally as well). This all worked
first try under IE (on Mac or PC) but not under Netscape. The links that
were targeted to 3A or 3B would instead show up in new windows.
The solution was to initialize all four frames with contents at the time
they were created. I created a tiny web page that was a single blank
character to initially be displayed in 3A and 3B. Subsequent updates with
real contents then worked correctly.
I have no idea if this is the "correct" solution or not (this is my first
experience with web stuff) but it worked for me. YMMV
