parsed would be a better word, and it was used in the original post in the
context that your statement was understood, thus the question regarding
speeding up the echo of strings that do not need to be parsed.
Would ditto a previous post... logic would dictate that not having to parse
the string would eliminate a step and save some time... likely negligable
to say the least unless we are talking large volumes of text (in which case
you would just exit the PHP tag and resume later no?)

But also bear in mind that "" interpolates (right word?)
php code whereas '' does not.
ie:
$var = "bob";
echo "Hi, my name is $var.";
will yeild:
Hi, my name is bob.
Whereas:
$var = "bob";
echo 'Hi, my name is $var.';
will yield:
Hi, my name is $var.
