I once had a case where ... phpinfo?... sometimes said "root", and yet exec("/usr/bin/whoami", ...) said my real username (this was with suExec and CGI... This was say back in 3.0.3 or 3.0.5 or something, I think... Anyway, there's always that one first httpd process running as root, which I always assumed isn't actually answering HTTP requests but keeps the other guys organized somehow or something... I wouldn't get too worried, but would check phpinfo() and exec("/usr/bin/whoami") and maybe even try to open some test file only root can read and then pound those pages with a testing script or something to be 100% sure that you never see root. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evans, Tim" <Tim_Evans@troweprice.com> Newsgroups: php.general Sent: Tuesday, December 05, 2000 2:15 PM Subject: [PHP] posix_getuid() Lies? > (I sent this earlier today, prior to joining the list, and don't know if it > actually > went out.) > > I have a strange situation with a Cobalt RAQ4i, running Cobalt-stock Apache > 1.3.12, > PHP 4.0.3pl1, MySQL 3.22.30, horde 1.2.3, and IMP 2.2.3. > > In debugging problems with horde/IMP, we've discovered posix_getuid() claims > Apache > is running as root.
